1//Name - Michelle.
2//Age - 14.
3//Locations - El Paso, Texas, but it will be changing to Colombus, Georgia very soon.
4//Insturment(s) - Flute (obviously :D), piano, and a bit of percussion (preferrably snare).
5//Fave. Composer - Chopin.
6//Fave. Piece - Tough one, but if I had to pick just one... I would say Ride by Samuel R. Hazo. The arrangement I played had such an awesome flute solo.
7//Anything Else - I'm a freshmen and a marching band geek. When I first saw flute, I really wanted to play it. Though when the time came for me to pick an instrument and I got flute, I was extremely disappointed because I wanted to go into percussion. Now though, I'm really glad that the first instrument I ever learned was flute.

Has anyone every done this before (taught flute to others)? If so, would you recommend me doing this? Any comments/help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Teaching Vibrato...? [06 Dec 2005|06:54pm]

ditzyjenn
Hey everyone.

Recently I've began to help the flute players at my old middle school(I'm in 11 grade now). With the 8th graders, the band director wants me to teach them vibrato. Today while I was there I did the best to teach them using some of the hints my private lessons instructor gave me, but out of the 6 of them only 1 could do it by the end. I'm going to help them again tommorow, so I just need any ideas of how to explain it better. If you have any websites that really help that would be great too, mabye I can print something out for them to read so the can try to understand it better?

Thanks for any help.

Hello Everyone,
I have a question for you. I have a silver Bundy piccolo that I want to sell, but I have no idea what a fair price would be to ask for it. The instrument is in really good shape and plays like new. The case looks a little beat up, but is still structurally sound. Like I said, I have no idea about piccolos, so any help would be appreciated.

Hello all...I'm Holly and I'm a soon to be college freshman (18) and I live in Wisconsin. Hmm Yay for Wisconsin. I play flute, piccolo, clarinet, piano, mallet percussion and once upon a time I played cello. And sometimes I get to play other fun things like timpani. Or at least I did in h.s. I've really been enjoying listening to John Williams lately because he seems to like flutes... :P Recently I played the Griffes Poem and I love it! So that's me. Currently my game plan is to study flute next year with Dr. Robin Fellows at UW-Whitewater, but I'm also looking at Lawrence University (Appleton, WI) and Minnesota Twin Cities --so if anyone knows about the music faculty there, I would greatly appreciate some feedback on that!

Hey all. :) My name is Ashley, I'm 16, a junior, and a flute/picc. player (haha, obviously). Yay for intros. Anyway, there is a program at my high school called Maroon & Gold Scholars. From my course selection book, this is what the program is about:

"The students will have the opportunity to undertake rigorous, independent, scholarly research and explore an academic area of personal interest. Working cooperatively with a faculty advisor of the student's choice, the student will design an action plan, conduct research, keep a log of activities, prepare and submit a final research project, and present the project orally to a designated faculty panel."

After we do all that good stuff which starts in a few months and ends the spring of my senior year, we get a special designation at graduation. I, personally, think it is worth it, but I need some help. I was going to take a musical approach at all of this and originally I was thinking about doing Music Theory & Piano but after I got the packet of directions, I fell all over myself.

We need to submit a formal written document and other supporting materials that show our research and present a thirty-forty minute presentation. After reading these directions I hastily changed my topic. I also met with the person who ran the program who said that if I was to prepare a piece and play it, it would count towards the project and I could speak on the composer and such. Well, since I will be preparing for college auditions, I was thinking this might be a good idea. I could play the piece and give a complete overview of the composer's life and maybe what the piece represents. Unfortunately, I do not know of any extremely long flute pieces unless I broke it down into the movements. Do any of you have any good ideas? I have to submit an outline of the plan, the goal of the project, and examples of sources.

Argh. x_x Mainly that was one big vent. I will ask my questions once more:

Do any of you fellow musicians know of any good pieces I could prepare to play?
Do any of you have any ideas of an angle I could approach this on?

Thank youuu. :)

Hi. I'm Ashley, I'm 16, I'm a junior in HS, been looking at colleges since sophomore year, and I live in MA. ^____^

Anyways, when I go off to college I was considering doing the craziest double major ever, but a double major anyway: veterinary sciences/somethingtodowithflutemaybefluteperformance.

Ahem. Now that you've all recovered from the faint..

I'd like to be able to perform in an orchestra type semblance when I'm older, but I'd also like to be able to teach flute to little children -- just lessons, not full out band director (maybe marching band ;) ). Anyways, I was just wondering your opinions on majors for that kind of area? I was thinking, as you can see above, about flute performance, but I'm not really sure..

Thanks for listening to my ramble. :P

I’m 25 years old picking up the flute for the first time in my life.
This is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a munchkin and I got a lovely flute for Christmas. Now the tricky part is finding a teacher.

So how about it? Any good flute instructors in Miami, FL that you could recommend?
If not, how about good training DVDs?

Thank you in advance!

1//name- Angela
2//age- 20
3//locations- I live on campus at University of the Pacific
4//insturment(s)- Flute, picc, and voice are my primary instruments. Im kind of proficient at piano. I also have to learn everything since im a music ed major - so far I play violin, cello, percussion alto sax and clarinet. Next semester i'll be learning oboe, bassoon, trumpet, and trombone!
5//fave. composer- It's way to hard to narrow it down to just one fave...I love so many composers!
6//fave. peice- Same as the copmosers. I have tons of favorite pieces.
7//anything else- Im a junior music ed major in the Conservatory at UOP. I started playing flute in 4th grade so i've been playing for almost twelve years. Im first chair in wind ensemble and I also play in pep band. I used to be in orchestra but i've had scheduling conflicts every semester since I started college. :-( I love performing as much as I love teaching. After teaching for a few years, I hope to get a masters in performance. Oh, and im probably the only person who's been in band this many years and never been in marching band! lol None of the schools i've gone to have had one though.
